MIssion
My mission is to help people be more secure online through training, education, and awareness.
Experience
Montgomery County Department of Police (MCPD)
Under the auspices of the Financial Crimes Section, I created and implemented a cybercrime prevention program for the residents of Montgomery County, Maryland. I prepared program descriptions, presentations, and supplemental materials. I wrote the content, HTML, and CSS code for over three dozen web pages on the various cybercrime prevention and online frauds and scams facing county residents.
My presentation, “Cybersecurity and You,” informs people of all ages on how to protect their identities, finances, and technology devices from various threats, including overreaching data harvesters, malevolent cyber-stalkers, and greedy computer criminals.
My article, entitled Red flags in cryptocurrency investments appeared in the Beacon Newspapers on September 28. You can watch the ignITeHub’s video recording of my talk on cryptocurrency scams at Montgomery College.
Educator and consultant with Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS)
I taught two cybersecurity classes at Thomas Edison High School of Technology in MCPS during the 2020-21 school year. I prepared lesson plans, lectures, quizzes, and exams for the full range of technical, operational, and management cyber technologies leading to the Security+ certification exam. Twice a week after school, I also mentored and coached two teams of Edison students participating in the CyberPatriot program. During three rounds of competition, the students learned how to harden computers and servers, which they later applied in the cybersecurity course I taught.
For three years, I have served on the MCPS IT Foundation’s Education Committee and developed a cloud computing curriculum proposal. We are developing proposed curricula in data science, artificial intelligence, and quantum computing.
Webmaster for the Montgomery County Citizen Academy Alumni Association (MCCAAA)
I am a graduate of the MCPD Citizen Academy and webmaster for the Montgomery County Citizen Academy Alumni Association (MCCAAA). The latter is for graduates of the Citizen Academy and holds monthly meetings featuring speakers on public safety topics in Montgomery County, Maryland. MCCAAA is a 501 (c)(3) organization, and as a charitable organization, is eligible to receive tax-deductible contributions.
MCCAAA holds monthly meetings on the third Thursday of each month, from September through May. Meetings take place at the Public Service Training Academy, 9751 Snouffer School Road, Gaithersburg. Visit https://mccaaa.org, where I write more web pages and articles in my spare time.
